What a classic! Amazing! And it's still banned in Germany...what a stupid censorship...

I love how Romero never focuses on the cause or origin of the zombies. They just are. In most movies, this would be a poor plot mechanic, but here this particular mechanism works well. The "why" of the zombies is not relevant. The collapse of society coupled with flesh-eating post-humans coming to fuck you up, however, is.

I've always found the social overtones about zombies the most disturbing (past the whole eating-you-alive thing). Large mobs behaving animalistically is terrifying. Social structural collapse is unnerving to most. There is a lot of parallel between zombies and riots, I think. That's, perhaps, why this type of movie scares the shit out us. That sense of hopelessness and powerlessness, powered by that perspective of "a few against many". Magnificent upload, friend.

@petpef I'VE BEEN WATCHING GEORGE'S MOVIES SINCE BEFORE YOU WERE BORN. Lol, joking! Just 10 years. :-)

@Vernedi I also read somewhere that they were locked in coffins, using up oxygen real quick. When the people were let out of the coffins, they'd have brain damage (due to lack of air) and would serve as slaves. But yeah, what you said is a common tale.

@IAMARATEL that's the beauty of Romero's dead movies.. the cause of the zombies is unknown. corpses are simply waking up. i like to think the hell full theory is correct that all the death of Vietnam, both world wars + murders over the centuries has filled hell up and there spilling out. but that's me, Romero doesn't say whats causing it
