rough 25F cold start of my 04 pump duse jetta tdi. the dealer supposedly installed 4 new glow plugs and did a ecu reflash as part of a recall. it also has a brand new battery, it shouldn't be this hard to start.
EDIT: i no longer have this car.

  • This problem is very simple to diagnose but not to fix. American Diesel fuel is VERY poor quality and has a low cetain content. This engine is designed to run on European quality fuel which has a much lower sulfur content. Engine is suffering from clogged injectors and intakes. Buy some Red Line Diesel Fuel Catalyst, follow instruction on the bottle and there will be some improvement. But the engine should really be taken apart and cleaned up.

  • WTF diesel in USA???!!!

  • @PiotrekN86 they only been around since the 1970's.izuzu,VW, toyota mercadies and mazda are the first ones to make small cars diesel here,GM was the first to make pick up trucks diesel followed by ford then dodge.olds mobile was the first to make full and mid size cars to make diesel.but dodge and ford never followed oldsmobile.and all of this happened in the 1970's and 80's

  • That's a nice looking Jetta. I own a 2002 Jetta TDI. Poor thing is needing repairs left and right. :-/ I named him Herbie because he's painted white.

  • check ur glow plugs brother

  • sounds like a tank

  • to be fair, i have a vw. that's the problem, VW....

  • diesel fuel gels up in temps below 32deg. try plugging in a block heater to keep fluid warm

  • @Drewbie85 once you TDI you'll never have a GTI... economy and power?.... what does a man need extra?

  • I think TDI's are coolest cars out there for people who just want to drive normally and save money
