Popular Perth band Perfect Strangers perform in a TV studio in 1986. Relocating to Sydney and within months of signing to Mushroom Records and building an ever-growing fan base through touring and MTV, their singer frontman, Andy Clayton Smith, known for his charisma, passion, energy and onstage backflips, passed away suddenly from cancer in 1988. The band never recovered. This is a tribute to him.
Man, i used to see these guys every week at The Raffles and the South Perth Hotel. I think their first single was "No Fear of Flying". They used to do a lot of U2 and Tears for Fears covers those days. Andy was a real premature loss.

At his funeral people were coming though the gate asking were the funeral was and this guy said " Oh are you looking for that ROCK STAR'S funeral .... How Andy would of been backflipping and the amount of people there were a testament to his beautiful hear and sou.. Still today I miss him and I have a photo of him by my bed.

Thank you for posting this I cant believe its been 23 years since he passed. I was a very close personal friend of Andy's I shared a house with him and we became best buddies. We were in Sydney together when he got sick again and we advised him to go back home. Not long after he passed away. Its was the most devastating time of my life.

OMG! I am so glad I found this. I loved this band but only found them near the end - saw them live a couple of times and was lucky enough to meet Andy. What a very special guy he was....

I went to school with Andrew, met up again in early 80's, a genuinely nice guy.
