ArtsMemphisTV presents Clare Torina PDF Print E-mail edit
Clare Torina was born 1985 in Eugene, Oregon and currently lives in Memphis, Tennessee. The daughter of a painter and art professor, she grew up sitting in on life drawing and painting classes at Memphis College of Art. After graduating from high school in Western North Carolina, she returned to study painting at the University of Memphis.
In 2008, Clare was awarded a fellowship to attend the Yale Summer School of Art 6-week residency program in Norfolk, Connecticut where she worked directly with artists An My Le, Jessica Stockholder, Sam Messer, and critic/historian Robert Storr.
In 2009, Clare earned her B.F.A. in Painting with a minor in Art History and was the recipient of the Deans Creative Achievement Award of the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
Clare has also shown locally at the Brooks Museum, David Lusk Gallery and Marshall Arts and has participated in several group shows in Chicago, Little Rock, Los Angeles, and Bruges, Belgium.
Don't miss "Two-Point Conversion," a solo exhibition of Clare's work on display in the Jones Hall Gallery at the University of Memphis now through September 25, 2009.
Upcoming shows include the "Holiday Group Exhibition" in the L. Ross Gallery at the University of Memphis. Reception will be December 4th from 6-8p... put it on your calendar!

I love Clare and her work. It's thoughtful and genuine and funny and profound and irreverent, changing, and growing. And it's such a privilege to see it evolving. What next??!?
