Side-by-Side Comparison (SSD on the LEFT): Startup

As you can see, the standard drive got a bit of a head start, and the POST process takes the same time to complete. Once the drives kick in, however, the SSD pulls ahead.

Setup: Two identical Dell Latitude D630 laptops with just-loaded identical images (Win XP sp3, Novell NetWare 4.91, McAfee VirusScan 8.7, etc). On the left: a Kingston-branded 80GB SSDNow M Series Intel X25-M SATA Solid State Drive; on the right: a standard 7200rpm 120GB SATA HDD.

  • Not that impressive. Come back in 5 years or so when the SSD's are actually at a decent price level. Right now its luxury at best. The speed difference while it is there is minimal, really.

  • I ain't gonna pay like 500 euros for just 120 gigs SSD.

Hell you could get 10 tb sata for that kind of money.

  • buying ssd is a complete waste of money, reduce the price first or i wont buy this shit

  • Not worth paying triple (or more.. mostly more..) the price for a minimal difference..

  • What if you have an SSD as your boot device and HDD as your main storage device. I'm planning to have a 8GB or 16GB SSD as my boot drive, and a 1.5 TB HDD as my storage drive. With that said, will the Defragmentation, Superfetch, and Write Caching be disabled on not only the SSD, but also on the HDD? A response and a reference article is well appreciated. :)

  • Hey,

Im working with Xplore tablets and testing XP tweaks. well i was tweaking the sata unit and did a reboot test. the stock one won, its like 3 or 4 times faster. So i thought maybe there is a diffrent hardware some where.

so i installed everest and looked for diffrent hardware and found out that the other one has got a SSD from intel.

i loaded both units with exactly the same image using acronis. ( 11GB )

The diffrence in startup time that i have is realy abnormal. ( SSD VS Sata)
