This January we held the third annual Brian Bemis Battle of the Arts where DeKalb and Sycamore art students square off in a Scion painting challenge. Saturday January 22, 2011 art students from DeKalb and Sycamore high schools met their teachers at Brian Bemis Toyota Scion in DeKalb to paint a car as a way to raise money for their school's art department. Both schools were provided with a Scion xB, paint brushes and other supplies. They had 7 hours to take their rough sketches and create a motorized work of art. Before the event the schools were given a theme that was voted on by Bemis employees and this year's theme was "School Pride." After the event the cars were on display in the showroom for 2 weeks. Students, parents, teachers and Brian Bemis customers were encouraged to come in and cast their vote to determine the winner. At the end of the 2 week voting period the votes were counted and Sycamore was declared the winner. Sycamore High School Art Department received $750 and DeKalb High School Art Department received $250.
