The snow fields keep on giving as we push up to higher elevation. No other hikers want to make the difficult trek in over the deep summer snow and we are rewarded again with perfect solitude as we reach the lake basin. With night falling, we talk of camp priorities of shelter and firemaking, all of which require commitment of work after a long hike in. I talk about the realities of TCE: time, calories, and energy when it comes to these tasks and those considerations always dictate all my decisions up here. We make the fire primarily with small knives and gathering/breaking branches but it's not easy and saves us no work. Lots of details shown. Camping on what turned out to be ten feet of snow complicates firecraft but I have fashion a sturdy base that works for its purpose. We are awestruck by the moonrise over the ridge that provides me with the namesake of the series.

  • Quality footage and entertaining as always. Curious, what is the problem with getting charcoal in the frozen lake (8:47)?

  • Anyone know what state they're in here?

  • It seems as though part 3 of this is lost. No pressure Nuttn, totally understand the constraints of your life and the project. Planning a backpacking trip for spring break. Better then going to florida and getting drunk all the other less intelegent students out there.

  • I love the Mora knives. I live in the town mora here in Sweden, where they make the knives, so they are like super cheap here :)

  • Those little shavings remind me of a cheese grater. Imagine using a cheese grater on a plank of dry wood and gettings little wood shavings. Lol

  • join the marines...This is nothing, child play

  • when you said you where going to use the saw you should have still challenged yourself and used a larger knife but i get the point of time and calorie loss

  • nutnfancy you are a good man with a good sense of humor

  • I love watching your vids in the snow. It makes the experience somehow more fulfilling when your traversing tough elements. Good to see you make it through each time. Keep up the good work man. Truly.
