Skagit County, Wash., dairy farmer Jason Vander Kooy, is one of the farmers participating in Farm Power Northwest's anaerobic manure digester project He said one of the advantages of the project is that he'll get free bedding, a byproduct of the process, for his cows. He'll also be able to use the nutrient-rich liquid manure on his fields. As a result, the plants will be able to use the manure more efficiently, and there will be much less odor than if he were to spread the straight manure on his fields.
