Vaidhyanatha Ashtakam.

Sree rama soumithri jatayu veda,
Shadanadithya kujarchithya,
Sree neelakandaya daya mayaya,
Sree vaidyanathaya namasivaya. .||1||

Salutations to Siva, Who is known as Vaidyanatha, Who is adored by Sri Rama, Laksamana, Jatayu, Veda, Kartikeya, Sun and Mars , -- Who has a blue-throat, and Who is full of benevolence.||1||

Ganga pravahendu jada dharaya,
Trilochanaya smara kala hanthre,
Samstha devairapi poojithaya,
Sree vaidyanathata namasivaya. .||2||


Salutations to Siva, Who is known as Vaidyanatha, Who beholds the flow of Ganga and the Moon in His tress-locks, Who has three eyes (Trilocana), Who destroys both Kala (time) and Smara (Kamadeva), and Who is gloriously adored by all the demi-gods.||2||


Bhaktha priyaya, tripuranthakaya,
Pinakine dushta haraya nithyam,
Prathyaksha leelaya manushya loke,
Sree vaidyanathaya namasivaya. .||3||


Salutations to Siva, Who is known as Vaidyanatha, Who is dear to the devotees, Who destroyed the demon known as Tripurasura, Who beholds the bow called Pinaka, Who always defeats the evil and cunning, and Whose sportive plays manifest after the world is formed.||3||


Prabhootha vadadhi samastha roga,
Pranasa karthre muni vandhthithaya,
Prabhakarennd wagni vilochanaya,
Sri vaidyanathaya nama sivaya. .||4||


Salutations to Siva, Who is known as Vaidyanatha, Who destroys all the diseases related to living beings and their morbid affection of the wind (diseases like rheumatism, gout, flatulence, etc.), Who is extolled by sages, and Who has the Sun, the Moon and the Fire as His three eyes.||4||

Vakchrothra nethrangiri viheena jantho,
Vakchrothra nethrangiri sukha pradaya,
Kushtadhi sarvonnatha roga hanthre,
Sri Vaidyanathaya nama sivaya. .||5||


Salutations to Siva, Who is known as Vaidyanatha, Who provides the bliss of having voice, ears, eyes, and legs to those living beings who are devoid of voice, ears, eyes and legs, respectively, and Who finishes the increasing diseases like leprosy.||5||


Vedantha vedhyaya jagan mayaya,
Yogiswara dhyeya Padambujaya,
Trimurthy roopaya sahasra namne,
Sri vaidyanathaya nama sivaya. .||6||


Salutations to Siva, Who is known as Vaidyanatha, Who is understood by the study of Vedanta (Upanisat), Who is all pervading and has manifested as the world, Whose lotus feet are meditated upon by the Lord of Yogis (Krishna), Who has manifested as the Trinity of Visnu, Brahma and Siva, and Who has thousands of names.||6||


Swatheertha mrudbasma brudanga bajam,
Pisacha dukha arthi bhayapahaya,
Athma swaroopaya sareera bajaam,
Sri Vaidyanaathaya namasivaya. .||7||


Salutations to Siva, Who is known as Vaidyanatha, Who destroys the fear, grief, pain and ghostly fears of those associated with the ashes of the cremation of those bodies which got dead in His shrine, and Who is the soul or atman-form for the living beings.||7||


Sree neelakandaya vrushaba dwajaya,
Sarakkanda basmadhya abhi shobithaya,
Suputhradarathi subagyathaya,
Sri vaidyanathaya nama sivaya. .||8||


Salutations to Siva, Who is known as Vaidyanatha, Who has a blue throat, Who has a flag depicting a bull, Who is exceptionally adorned by the fragrance of water-flowers and ashes, and Who bestows the good fate of a good wife and son.||8||

Beautiful is a very small word for this lovely divine song. Everytime I hear this song, tears just come rolling out of my eyes....Amazing singing....divine voice....really brings out the devotion in a person....

As the song says, this is where Lord Ram and Lakshman worshipped Shri Vaidyanatha and also performed the last rites of Jatayu (there exists a Jataayu Kund in the temple). This is where Angaraha (Mars) got cured of his illness (leprosy).

Though the Jyotirlinga of shri Vaidyanath is in Parli/ Deogarh, this Ashtakam has been composed in praise of Shri Vaidyanatha at the temple town, Vaideeshwaran Kovil (means Vaideeswara Temple) near Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu. The temple is centuries old and is also one of the Navagraha Khstras, and Angaaraha (Mars) is worshipped here. The prasad here consists of small tablets made of bhasma (ash) and mud, and is said to have great medicinal properties.
