The new $angles3d function I cooked up let me create this very special fireball. It has no server-side script of its own. Rather, it can nest as part of any existing NPC's script, which directs a client effect at targets. The advantage of this is it saves a LOT of resources, vs. the full AI most of our scripts require to create to do this sort of thing, only less pretty.
The purple lines indicate where the server thinks it is (vs. where the client sees it). This inaccuracy is somewhat limiting, but it works fine for this slow moving beast. I'm not sure if we can use this same process to tweak out the existing, fast moving, guided fireballs, that are so resource intensive, but possibly.
