When Foster was good,he was brilliant! This was one of the best,if not the best ,of his runs.Pity he never quite found this form in Olympic years...here he destroys the great Lasse Viren, amongst others, and humidity apart would almost certainly have broken the world record.
Time has changed. Europeans dominated in long-distance running at that times.

@markgregamy No, Viren had tore his left Hamstring and lost much training in the lead up to these championships. This was as a result of increasing his mileage to fit the average Finnish volume at the time, but it proved counterintuitive. It's never been proven that Viren was on drugs, so I suggest you drop it.

I think peoples are underrating a bit long trip runners nowadays.
Before(1974) the things was different i think.
Finland had many good runners, nowadays is only Keskisalo and Sandells.
Foster looks very good sportman.
Also many sportman are good persons, such like own persons haha.

I think Brendan Foster would have made easily a new world record those days.
It was then 13. 13, 0. If Big- Bren would have done his best. I would have been about 13. 10 or even better.

Pity it wasn't the Olympics. One of the bravest front-running performances in athletics history.
