This is a 2 minute teaser of an interview conducted with magician, sceptic and author James Randi (randi.org) on 20th April 2008 exclusively for The Skeptic Magazine (UK). The video features Randi discussing and demonstrating a magic trick from one of Martin Gardner's books, which somehow fooled scientists on initial observation.

The full 52 minute interview will be released to coincide with the circulation of the relaunch issue of The Skeptic, in late July or early August 2009.

  • I just love how reality always destroys the concept of the supernatural. ★★★★★

  • REAL MAGIC!!! ;)

Otherwise known as a good trick!

    LOL

    Great video!

  • A PhD results from 5 years of work. Scepticism is a process of lifelong vigilence.

    From a PhD candidate

  • Spot on; i've used the same trick loads of times. Chicks seem to love it too lol.

Just after he appears to pass the match box, you see him lower his right hand, this is where he puts the matchbox on his lap (out of camera), then return it to normal position to show his hand, now empty.

  • No- he used real magic!

  • Nice video of James Randi. It's amazing that scientists who really want to believe in the paranormal will make such elementary mistakes.

Funny how little Uri Geller does his spoon bending these days!

  • FYI Randi never actually transfers the matchbox to the other hand at the end.

  • Randi is the most awesome guy.

  • PhD scientists who make incredibly pompous and laughably stupid mistakes; then refuse to admit they were wrong when shown how stupid their mistake was, THEN act like total DOUCHES to the person whom they should be THANKING for showing them their stupid mistake, DO deserve public humiliation, and they deserve it in spades. Not being able to admit you're wrong when you're a PhD physicist is a near guarantor of being a shit scientist.

  • People don't need to be publicly humiliated for making a mistake.

  • Aww, I don't have any loose skin on the back of my hand. Maybe hair will do...
