Meet Violence Jack

In this clip from the "Evil Town" episode of the three-part Violence Jack anime series, we're introduced to the main character, along with a city official who very likely won't survive the next ten minutes.

I have a hard time picking a favorite part of this. While it's tough to beat the look of pure, undisguised menace on Jack's face when he announces his name, there's good competition in the moment at 29 seconds, when Jack appears to stab the mayor squarely in the crotch.

Unfortunately, Violence Jack is available on DVD only in Europe, and this is all I'll be able to upload for now. Both Manga and Right Stuff have lost the license to the series, but if we send lots of letters to the right companies, perhaps someone will bring it out. I suggest writing Media Blasters. They've published worse than Violence Jack.

Trivia: This episode of Violence Jack was written by Sho Aikawa, who'd go on to script anime like Fullmetal Alchemist, Martian Successor Nadesico, and The Twelve Kingdoms. If you ever meet him at a convention, be sure to ask about Violence Jack.

If it's one thing I love and respect about Go Nagai, it's his willingness to completely and utterly piss off the censors.

If I recall correctly from somewhere, that was the excact reason he created Jack.
