While 'Charley Says', 'Splink' and 'Lonely Water' may remain among the most famous COI (Central Office of Information) films, the films were at their best when the output was at its simplest. 'Broken Glass' eschews animated cats, complex acronyms and the Grim Reaper in favour of a brutally minimalist approach, and is all the more effective for it. (Alex Davidson)

  • both me and my 8 year old son hate this ad.i have the Charley says dvd and we always skip this one

  • public information films back then were way more effective than nowadays.

i wonder how they made it look like he was going to step on the glass. maybe they made him run, wait until his foot was just above it, and then push him out the way and onto a mat : the same type used in high jumping. or maybe its an optical

illusion : the glass could be closer to the camera than it looks

  • went to the beach today and there were broken bottles. sad.

  • I remember a version somewhere around the 80's perhaps early 90's of a similar psa which consisted of a girl skipping through grass singing then with her foot about to step on a broken bottle. You then just heard a scream as the video stopped. The end. That used to give me chills.

  • This bloody ad gave me nightmares when I was a kid
