Middletown resident Jim Grenafege said he hoped to cover 3 related topics at the Middletown Township NJ monthly Committee meeting. First was the campaign literature he got in the mail and how it deals with character and how we are morally etched. He said in October 2008 Mr. Scharfenberger used his place of employment, a private university, to produce campaign literature. He said that the use of the email that was sent was in violation of U.S. non-profit tax laws and a violation of university policy. Mr. Scharfenberger had to attend a meeting to review university policy, but no document about a reprimand was ever produced. Since no comment was ever made by Mr. Scharfenberger, Mr. Grenafege assumed that this was actually done. Mr. Grenafege said another example of the use of inappropriate use of resources was to use the emergency
notification system for non-emergency purposes. It was used to deliver a nonemergency message just before the election. Mr. Grenafege wanted to know if it is ethical to use the emergency notification for non-emergency
purposes. He went on to say he received two mailings promoting the GOP candidates and disparaging Sean Byrnes with false statements and deceitful information. Mr. Grenafege said it is clear that Mr. Scharfenberger is trying to ride Gov. Christie's coattails and his running mate, who sat on a highly taxed town in North Jersey for 10 years are using distortion and deceit as their prime theme. Mr. Scharfenberger then said that the 5 minutes allotted to Mr.
Grenafege had expired. Mr. Fiore said it sounds like Mr. Grenafege has sour grapes over the 2008 election
