Soul legend Eddie Cole and DieGruppe play "Insane." Produced by Helfried Krainer & Christian Bauer, video by Gernot Ebenlechner, 2010.
"Insane" came to me while I was waiting in my dentist's office, sitting next to a bunch of frightened people. Almost everybody was fiddling with a cell phone or a video game. A young guy received a call, letting everybody know that he was in a dentist's office, and that his new plasma TV was awesome. A boy immersed in his video game, did not answer his mother when she asked him about his homework. I was listening to the background music, smooth jazz, which seemed to fit the bill. I overheard two mothers talking to each other about today's music their kids listen to, like rap or pop, and how badly it influences them. This is insane! And we don't have the music to blame! Look at our society, where human interaction is increasingly substituted with electronic devices. If anything else, music, and live music in particular, brings people together! No, I can't imagine a life without music. As Frank Zappa said, "music is the best."
Eddie Cole is originally from Los Angeles and is the nephew of jazz legend Nat King Cole.
Update June 15, 2011: Jamiroquai has released a new song called "Smile" with the subtitle "The World of Nat King Cole", available for free download at: http://www.jamiroquai.com/news;news/10335/New-Jamiroquai-song-Smile-available... - I couldn't find any further reference on their site to the subtitle, but Nat had a hit called "Smile". It's always a good sign when other artists cover or interpret your songs.
