Nick's POV
I know. she whispered back, adjusting herself so that she was sitting across from me on the couch, being sure to keep eye contact with me. I quickly looked away from her.
You do?
Yep, Ive known for a while now. she blushed and would NOT stop trying to hold my gaze.
How long is a while?
Since you said it while I was asleep a few months ago or something like that. she explained, putting air quotes around the word asleep. I looked down at my sneakers and then everywhere else except at her. In a way, I felt like I didnt have to hide anything anymore. I didnt have to hold back. But in another way, I felt stupid because she knew for so long and;
She hadnt said it back.
Oh, well thats cool. I mumbled, feeling like a complete idiot.
Dont be embarrassed. she whispered, leaning forward and resting her forehead on the side of mine, since I still refused to look at her. I finally willed myself to rest my forehead against hers and let her eyes meet mine.
I quickly turned my head away from her again, I cant help it. I feel so immature and stupid.

I smiled slightly then got back to business, Why didnt you ever say anything? Maybe I wouldnt feel half as moronic about this

I definitely wasnt ready right now. I grumbled. I didnt even mean to say it now, it kind of slipped. But Im glad it did, you needed to know.
Im glad it did too. she agreed, nodding.
So, will you take this? Please? I asked nodding to the ring in her hand, trying not to sound too begging and desperate.
Are you sure? Do you know what this means if you give this to me? she asked carefully, her eyes were cautious but underneath, I could see a glimmer of hope.
I know exactly what it means and Ive never been more sure of anything in my entire life. I nodded reassuringly.
I cant believe your giving a girl who hasnt even said that she loves you, your promise ring. The ring that defines who youre going to give yourself to. Are you SURE!? she asked again, her lips twitching into a smile and I laughed. It did sound pretty ridiculous. But I couldnt help it, it felt too right to be wrong.
Im positive. Because I love you more than anything else in the world Mikayla Marie. And I know it sounds stupid, but I just have this feeling that if I give you enough time, someday youll be ready to tell me how you feel about me too.
You should already know how I feel about you, just because I dont say it doesnt mean I dont feel it. She pressed her thumb against my left wrist and we both felt another jolt of shocks fly through her to me and me to her. See what I mean? I met her intense gaze and nodded, finally understanding. For the first time ever, I was actually aware of her feelings towards me and they seemed to be radiating off of her. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders and that nothing could ever hurt me again, ever. Honestly, I didnt even care if she was telling the truth or just saying all of that so I didnt feel stupid. Nothing could bring me down in that moment. She slid the ring onto her own left ring finger, but it fell right off. It was too big.
Here, I murmured, pulling her close to me. I searched for the clasp on my dog tags chain and pulled it around my neck. I removed my dog tag, then I took the ring from her and slid it onto the chain. I put it around her neck and shoved her hair out of the way so that I could clasp it.
The new and improved necklace hung from her neck and she looked down at it with a smile playing on her lips. She held it in her hand like it was a precious stone and continued to admire it with her eyes. I touched it lightly and kissed her lips gently. She brought her head down slightly so that I could feel her eyelashes fluttering against my cheek. I smiled, closing my eyes and kissing her more intensely. She kissed back briskly and pulled me down against her, tightly, heat radiating from under her thin shirt. She ran her hands up and down my sides and I slid my hands under her shirt slowly, incase she wanted to stop me. I heard her suck in a sharp, deep breath. Are you okay? I asked, suddenly feeling worried and panicky.
She nodded slowly but then pushed my shoulder back so that we were sitting up once again. I promised your mom, that Id, you know. Take it easy on you she trailed off and I was confused for a second. I tried to hide my blush and attempted to find my voice again, but nothing came out. She read what I wanted through my eyes and grinned deviously.
Although, no one has to know.
I laughed and smoothed down her hair, Funny, I was thinking the same, exact thing.
