@Oxidus The real problem is that Saudis, Syrians and Gulf States did not want us to do that because it would have put Shiites in charge in the Southeast. The Turks, Iranians, and Russians did not want us to do it because it would have put Kurds in charge in the Northwest. The first Bush and Clinton administration was afraid Iraq would breakdown into a prolonged Civil War like Lebanon. In the end we stood by and watched the Republican Guard crush the rebellions.

@roro560v8 Because the UN mandate only allowed the liberation of Kuwait sadly and we along with our coalition allies had to follow the UN mandates. US, UK and Australia are only countries agreed to go further into Iraq and into the capital of Baghdad to oust Saddam from power but the rest of our allies said that our objective have been achieved so we stopped going further into Iraq.

-
i thought the American bungled the 2nd invasion due to the lack of a post-war reconstruction/reconciliation/
peace plan ... not solely due to just having gone back ... -
Marion Thatcher was so right...

Iraq wasn't a military power to begin with, saying that has always made me chuckle.

Schwarzkopf's words were prophetic.
