Palomar - 8 yr old Oldenburg gelding by Pikor.

Either suspensory or annular ligament damage in his left hind makes it very difficult for him to carry himself/turn left.

  • what treatment did you do? its cause my horse has the same problem and on the left hind leg too.. How much time does it take for them to heal up??? THANK YOU/

  • Didn't really do any "treatment". It was an old injury. Tried wedge pads/egg bars to make him more comfortable, but that's how we discovered it was a ligament and not a tendon (opposite effect).

Recovery time all depends on the exact location and severity of the tear (diagnosed by ultrasound). Sometimes it's just a few months of rest and then you begin light work again and build up; sometimes the horse is never able to fully recover (like Palomar).

    Hope your horse does well!
