Currently any two vessels at sea that communicate with each other do so through satellite communications. Even if two vessels are only a few miles apart, the first vessel communicates to a satellite which relays the message, via a Network Operations Center, back to the satellite and down to the second vessel.

Intellicheck Mobilisa has developed the next generation wireless network technology, Floating Area Network (FAN) that augments the current technology and provides a cost effective and efficient way of providing network connectivity within line of sight; alleviating the need to rely so heavily on satellite communications.

Utilizing an Intellicheck Mobilisa developed mesh Ad-Hoc network, ships at sea can communicate line of sight without utilizing Satellite communications. Video and Data can be transmitted simultaneously in a fraction of the normal communications time.

Ships configured with FAN are able to join and leave the network with other ships within line of sight of their antennas. Such a solution is a cost effective and an efficient way of communicating between vessels that are in close proximity of each other.

Intellicheck Mobilisa successfully completed exercise Trident Warrior - 08 in June 2008 where the system performed extremely well and was used by the ships in real world scenarios.
