Platinum IWC Portuguese Minute Repeater Ref IW524204 Limited edition of 100 pieces. hand wound mechanical Caliber IWC 95290 movement with 54 jewells, 43 hour power reserve.

Platinum case 43mm diameter, 12.35mm deep. Argente dial with railway style minute chapter ring, applied Arabic numeral hour markers, second sweep subsidiary dial. Black croc strap with platinum folding clasp. Box and papers dated July 2008. Pre-owned UNUSED.

The minute repeater is from the 17th century and featured in the first pocket watches. That fact that it chimed out the time in tones had immense practical advantages, particularly at night, in an age when there was no electric light.

Most of the work of perfecting the mechanism was carried out by Abraham Louis Breguet, who replaced the bells and tiny hammers with a space-saving spring gong.

The Portuguese Minute Repeater is an outstanding example of old and modern watchmaking technology. Its movement is based on the original 95 calibre pocket watch movement of 1927.

The sonorous minute repeating mechanism chimes out the hours, quarters and minutes on two finely tuned gong.

This is a stunning watch and one of my very favourite pieces this year.

Very best wishes,

Mark Blowers

  • Hi, I will check this for you, thanks for watching!

  • A historical piece no doubt. But if you haven't showcased the IWC Portuguese Rose Gold Perpetual then I think it's time. This is a piece for extremely avid collectors, which in all fact is ok. However if you were to spend that kind of money on a watch then I would suggest buying a Audemar Piguet Ginza or Montoya, and a couple of Hublot Big Bangs. Vintage style watches are slowly decreasing and you can find style mixed with great modern mechanical watches.

  • Thank you for your knowledgable comments, we had a Perpetual in stock which we sold. We look to purchase AP SE models, of course scarce watches and difficult to find! We have just taken the new Rolex DEEPSEA into stock which we will post shortly, and a SE Panerai 309 of 100. If there are any other models you would like us to feature lpease feel free to let us know.

    Kind regards

    Mark

  • @ToothyGus This is a mechanical watch. You have to simply wind it up again. There are different settings for each watch to wind up. For example, my watch you simply screw the crown out and spin the crown until the watch has enough power to provide the time. Most classic watches are in fact water resistant meaning you can use at bath etc... For deeper water resistant watches check out Rolex. Hope that helped you out! Take care :)

  • What a wonderful piece of art. I have two questions:

What happens if it runs out of power? since it's not run by battery, how will u get it started again?

    And, is it waterproof?

  • @swizzlestick447
