It works with Windows PC's and Mac's. If it works with a Mac, it will work with all Macs. Just like computer speakers will work with MP3 player AND Ipods, they both use a 3.5 mm jack.

it is noisy because you have it sitting vertical it suppose to sit horizontial on the little rubber feet they give you b/c I have the 232 model and the only time i can here it is when it starts to spin up or spin down other wise it shuts of in about 2-5 minutes and stays that way until it is needed.

i have this too, it sorta hums when you leave it on. but if you turn the HD off, the sound will go away. btw, if i want to bring this on a plane, how should i pack it because i dont wanna damage it and loose all the memory?

you've placed it on wood. my hard drive has that noise too because i placed it on the table. i've had to put a book on top for now just to reduce the noise but im planning on placing it on the carpet floor below my desk as it was originally was.

actually there is an 8 page pamphlet under it to reduce the noise, otherwise it would be shaking the entire wood desk...

Is this noisy ?? Comparing to computer's noise, I mean can hardly hear any sound from it. I think WD is the best manufacture with decent price.

it's the hum you clearly hear at the start of the video, every other external hd (including other WDs that I own) do not make this hum noise.

the drive failed yesterday while in the process of transferring files. it will power up and the "rings" spin and the drive seems to be spinning but it will not mount.

there is a "hum/rumble" that the drive is making. you should also hear the iMac startup sound as well as a portion of a Faith No More song towards the end...
