More than 8,000 sirens howled across Switzerland, as the civil protection authorities tested their emergency warning system, said to be the envy of the rest of Europe. The alarms are designed to alert the public in the case of nuclear or chemical accidents, dams breaking, satellites crashing to earth, earthquakes, epidemics and armed conflict. • They are testing this in Switzerland this year in the first wednesday of february.

  • As much as i figured out, they sound the alarm every once its 13:30 to check it and train ppl to not panic, right? What if something happens at 13:30 and ppl just "Ahh its 13:30, thank you alarm".

  • they need to broadcast whatever message needs to get out "RUN FOR YOUR LIVES" for example. They replaced sirens with text message services where I live. and they send the text messages in 9 languages.

  • Damn those are well patient citizens. If I heard an alarm like that I'd be all like: "HOLY SHIT, WE ARE GONNA FUCKING DIE!!!! RUN FOR YOU FUCKING LIVES

    !!!"
