Diddy Kong Racing Walkthrough Pt 12: Fire Mountain Battle

Welcome to your first battle game. A level in each world contains a key that will unlock the battle door. The key for Dino Domain is found in Ancient Lake on a small pedestal near the first bend, right in the open.

Fire Mountain is actually, in my opinion, the most difficult battle game. Your goal is to hatch 3 eggs. To do that, fly into the central pit, pick up an egg, fly up to your nest, drop the egg down (Z button), and wait a few seconds for it to hatch. While the egg is hatching, it will be blinking on the scoreboard at the top of the screen. Blinking eggs can be picked up and stolen from other characters. After about 10 seconds, the egg will hatch, and it will become solid in the scoreboard. Hatched eggs CANNOT be stolen.

The strategy is to pick up your first egg from the central pit, drop it off (you can carry 1 egg at a time), then steal other eggs from other characters. Eggs do respawn in the central pit, but you might as well steal from your opponents. Remember they can steal from you, too. After you drop your third egg, you may want to pick up a missile (which you should get at the start of the battle) and defend your nest. Another option is to just go for a fourth egg in case the your third is stolen.

A win notches you the first quarter of the T.T. Amulet. The Dino Domain Trophy Race is next on our list.

me, my brother and my sister would spend an entire car ride playing just this one game with eachother. we'd get so competitive and come up with the best ways ever to win. My usual plan was to steal eggs from people and drop them until I was close enough to my nest to drop one there. Then after I had three i would sit on my nest with a homing rocket and defend the egg with my life. Ah...good times
