Daniel runs the 150 meter dash over a wooden track system that seems to have been around since before the 1950s. Not only is the Portland Expo (the home of the professional basketball farm team Red Claws) an outdated structure, bu they also still use a wooden track system (see the bank turns) that is poorly maintained, doesn't fit together, and causes numerous falls by competitors. Each Saturday, the Expo hosts three sessions of indoor track. Each session is three hours long - or longer - and involves three middle school track teams. Daniel won his session's 150 meter dash with a time of 22.7 seconds. His recount of the race includes trying to stay balanced on the banks undulating and wobbly boards.
He did a nice job. But, I ran track there for 4 seasons. Many, many races were run. The track was fun and not really wobbly. Made a lot of noise, but not wobbly. If it wasn't safe, they wouldn't use it...
