everyone of you people that film these big trebuchets need to zoom way out! before launch the machine is tightly collapsed, during the fire the arm and sling stretched upward atleast three times higher than before the launch....bottom line is people want to see the projectile being released so you got to set the camera frame to anticipate where the projectile will be released

@henribergius actually as he object is light the trebuchet keeps bucking heavily, with a heavier object, say a 5kg stone, more of the energy would be transferred, and the object would fly a similar or even greater distance.

That's right, ivanovitch. A Trebuchet isn't fired, it's launched. Just like a catapult. Why anyone would want to show just how wimpy a might trebuchet can be by using it to launch footballs is beyond me. These things were monster destroyers able to smash thick castle outer walls from hundreds of yards away. What a waste of a great machine. A demo to keep the toursts happy, no doubt.

omfg i thought i saw a human body dangling from the friggin rope there xD

Check out 'Canada tests its new weapons' for another trebuchet. Not as pretty as this one, but still cool.

Gay.

ermm, a trebuchet isn't fired. it's not powered by an explosive charge.
didn't really want to be picky but us medieval reenactors can't ignore things like that :)

Total anti climax hahahaha
Looks good, but did it actually throw something? What? How far? The vid doesn't really show us what it can do.

They threw some footballs, nothing actually heavy. Flew quite far, though.
