My grandfather was a decorated WWII vet, and he was an atheist.
My nonbeliever grandpa was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his service to America in the South Pacific.
He believed so strongly in the freedoms guaranteed Americans in the Constitution that he was willing to pay for them with his very life, and to do so with no hope of a Heaven as reward.
He is so wrong. We do not live in a Democracy and i'm GLAD that we don't. The majority does NOT rule. In a true Democracy, the 51% (majority rule) can trample on the rights of the 49% (minority). We live in a Republic where there are rules that protect the minority. We call it the constitution.
I suggest this well-meaning veteran read more about the concept of "the tyranny of the majority"...but his points are moot, this is about what is legal and not legal under the laws of the United States. If he chooses to petition the government to change such laws regarding separation of church and state, he is more than able to do so.
I am a veteran. I think this man was respectful but wrong. The majority does not rule...the majority determines voting & stuff like that...The Bill of Rights protects individuals from such stuff.
Following this man's logic if the majority in a state says dogs have a right to bark whenever they want & if someone complains about all the noise then they are out of luck...sorry you can't sleep but majority decides in all matters.
He is so wrong. He is basically saying to her stay out of the gym or if you go in the gym, keep your eyes down and don't look up like a good nonbeliever.
I respect his service and what his family has done for this country (and he is respectful of the position of people he disagrees with) but I do believe he is incorrect. We are not a democracy and never have been. We are a constitutional republic and the Constitution does protect the minority even (and especially) from the will of the majority.

Even though I do not agree with his idea, I think he did a great job presenting and not ridiculing anyone, UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE. Props Veteran.
