Catholic Schools Start Year with Opening Mass and Awards

August 17, 2011

Over 2,000 Catholic school principals, teachers and staff from across the Archdiocese of Washington gathered to open the school year with a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington. Bishop Francisco González, S.F. and Bishop Leonard Olivier, S.V.D. auxiliary bishops of Washington, concelebrate the Mass. Following the Mass, were remarks from Catholic Schools Superintendent Deacon Bert L'Homme, and there was a ceremony honoring teachers and principals celebrating more than 25 years of service, as well as schools marking 50 or more years of serving the community.
