See Dr. Peng's exit seminar at http://youtu.be/lpecLYsracQ - Crop physiology research at IRRI.

Shaobing Peng, Senior crop physiologist, Crop and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD), at the International Rice Research Institute IIRRI; http://irri.org ), spouse Jing Tan, and children depart the Institute on 24 December 2010.

This video clip shows a farewell ceremony at IRRI for the Pengs.

Dr. Peng was recognized for his successful years at IRRI conducting research on the physiology of irrigated rice. During his nearly 20 years at IRRI, Shaobing made numerous contributions to the increase in rice yield by both variety improvement and integrated crop management.

Shaobing identified key plant traits that led to increased yield potential and contributed significantly to the development of plant ideotypes for breaking the yield barrier. He proposed the concept of a "healthy canopy" and developed integrated crop management practices based on the leaf color chart. He also studied the effects of climate change on rice and discovered the specific impact of high nighttime temperature on reduced yield of rice. In addition to his considerable scientific outputs,

He has been a valued member of IRRI's research community and he had many interactions with plant breeders and CESD colleagues. His research was always conducted at the highest level of scientific excellence, and with a keen eye to detail.

Shaobing will be missed by his colleagues and friends at IRRI. The Institute wishes him well in his new job as full professor at Huazhong Agricultural University in Wuhan, China.
