Part 1:

Condoleezza Rice, the US Secretary of State, visited Auckland this weekend.

Here to greet her, in their usual warm friendly manner, was a crowd of activists who marched through an unusually strong "once-in-a-decade" storm from Auckland Domain to Government House, where "Condi" was meeting with NZ Foreign Minister Winston Peters.

Held at bay by a large contingency of police, they protested loudly against US foreign policy, the war in Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, torture, imperialism, capitalism, etc, etc, etc. (Some of them also brought up Maori rights and others hurled personal insults at political figures, but I'm not sure how those were relevant or appropriate).

26 July, 2008
Park Road, Grafton, to
Mountain Road, Mount Eden
Auckland, New Zealand

  • im a iraqi and i live in auckland

i lost most of my family cause of the us goverment lies (war in iraq)

  • Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about! So, what do you say, will Iraq be better off without Saddam? Or will another tyrant take his place when the US leaves, and the violence and corruption continue like before? Can Iraqis live in peace? Or will the Sunnis, Shi'ites, Kurds, and Iranians always be at each others throats? We want to know!

  • Man Love Those STROBE lights on the front of that Daf!!!!

  • Thanks Kiwi for posting these.

I think NZers have to accept that they are part of an occupying force in those afghan persian? lands, right or wrongly is irrelevant now.

Move to put things as right as possible and aim to make a better world.

Clearly the powers that make these decisions are going to stick to them until there is a proper exit plan.

And that's where these protesters do us all a favor, cause they show them and us that we ppl do care, and I applaud their efforts.

  • yeah they baby sitting alright babysitting a terrorist named condomlezza rice thats the only reson they were there and think why no one burns NZ or Maori or canadian flags

because none of them are going round destroying the world and for your information the guy who burnt the flag was an american

  • Nice... BTW DPS stands for Diplomatic Protection Squad lol

  • Graphic flag burning? More like rofl flag burning

  • The person burning the American flag needs a kick in the face, but a bullet would be even better.

  • LOL bit of overkill on the police escort wasn't it? I mean 12 guys and their kids?? ahahaha

  • New Zealand isn't currently deployed in either Iraq or Afhganistan in a combat role.. Iraq has one defence force attache posted, and afghanistan has ca. 150 Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) deployed to help rebuild inferstructure.

New Zealand actually showed little support for the war in Iraq.

NZDF myself, I think these students, should study a little harder, and maybe educate themselves fully in foreign policy.

Its "cool" to be anti-establishment remember.

  • For today, who cares about the flag! all those complaining, get a life would you, you sensitive geeks, better still. Get counselling, we did! LOL

  • And this is the country my mother was from... You know, the US isn't perfect, and I do agree that the War in Iraq has gone too far from the point, but burning the flag is another thing. You know, I can't believe that my mom is from a country that hates the US, I feel like I'm from a family of traitors. And you shouldn't just blame the president for the mess. You should also blame congress, as they passed the bills that the president has signed. Bush is pushed around by congress and takes the hit

  • Im not for the war in Iraq, and im not happy with alot of what happens in the world, but burning a countries flag no matter the country is I think stupid, ignorant and wrong. People have died under that flag, and the US has done good. Every country fucks up. All good to be anti that, but seriously think people.

  • sorry i was replying to someone elses comment made earler on in this clip. It was trojclans
