Building A Cisco Lab - Making RJ45 to RJ45 Rollover Cables - Part 1 of 2

This video is intended for users who have acquired a Cisco AS2509-RJ or AS2511-RJ for the purpose of acting as an Access Server in their home lab.

If you are using a Cisco AS2509-RJ or AS2511-RJ as an Access Server in your home lab, the one of the advantages of these boxes is that they provide 8 or 16 (depending on the model) dedicated async ports that use RJ45 connections. It's actually fairly simple to create custom length RJ45 to RJ45 async cables from a spool of Ethernet cable, existing Ethernet cables, or Cisco rollover cables.

You will need cabling, a crimping tool, and possibly a wire stripper. This lesson shows you step-by-step how to create custom length RJ45 to RJ45 async cables.

  • Never recycle old cables, and use a striper rather than stake knives.

Enjoy steaks for dinner, and make your cables like it is supposed.

  • That "fiber glass" lol what you call it. It actually rips the jacket. You just pull it and it'll rip the jacket or shielding for you.

  • A lot of talking but it was really good detail. Thanks!
