Wondering if "Back in the USSR" had any influence on the writing of this song.

Yes, some of them (Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye, Jerry Cole, Howard Roberts, Steve Douglas, Jay Migliori and Leon Russell) participated in this recording.

This song will forever remind me of my sweet departed wife, Patricia... She was my "beach bunny"... May God Bless her, always...

While this was recorded in the almost-symphonic wall of sound production style, the pocket symphony quote came from Brian Wilson's publicist, Derek Taylor, and was about Good Vibrations because of its modular mini-movements. You are right on about the other thing though, it is probably the most perfect sun-and-girls song the Beach Boys ever performed.

Brian Wilson called this a pocket sympohny. One of the most perfect songs ever written IMO.

2:11 and onwards is one of those moments where everything is just perfect. On the instrumental version on the Stack-o-Tracks album you can really hear how detailed and clean Brian's wall of sound is. Really great production.

Quite the opposite, "Back in the USSR" was influenced BY this sing. It pretty much parodies it.

Vice versa, actually. "Back in the USSR" was basically a tribute to the Beach Boys.
