  • $168,000? jeez that would get u sweet FA these days, an almost chilling reminder that inflation has come so far from back then to right now

  • @polsj103 It's still a good amount of money, but even by 1999 standards, it was low compared to what had been offered in the past. They used the same cash jackpot system for 19 years! It would start at $50,000 and increase by $2,000 every time it wasn't won. Those figures were exactly the same in 2001 as in 1982 when it was first used. But sometimes when there wasn't a grand champ for ages, there would be huge jackpots. In 1990 it once piled up to $320,000, but the record is 1992 at $508,000!

  • Thanks very much darijoe. I remember that Edgell ad at the beginning which I haven't seen for about 10 years, I had no idea that they made a change in the logo then and I was also surprised to see that they used the same woodwind contestant introduction music until 1999.

Not only did I have fright when I discovered this in the site search, having seen those fast money rounds you posted for almost a year, I was also shocked to hear where Stephanie comes from because that's exactly where I live!

  • My pleasure MeFrom07!! You are very observant I'll give you credit for that too! Hahaha those discoveries must be a huge fright! Is Cleveland a nice part of Qld?

  • @jane7362 I wish it was still on in America. The most recent attempt in 2007 used the "Temptation" title, but it came out as kind of a raw deal. The show tanked in the ratings (due to poor format and promotion) and was cancelled within a few months. If you watch any American clips, you'll probably see that the version from the 80s was better.

  • OMG i actually remember this episode from when i was a kid! I used to love Sale of the Century wish it was still on the air :( Thanks for the upload!

  • @morphoist "It" being Sale of course....

  • I wonder if they picked the car because it was made in Melbourne???

  • LPOL the job upstairs ?

  • Thank you very much. Being from Australia myself, this brings back a lot of memories. 2 things I would like to point out.

    1. Was this the first year that they offered Alfa Romeo as the main car.

    2. Pete Smith doesn't sound too well in the opening. Usually he's very powerful in his voiceovers, but he must;ve been sick, especially in the opening and intro of Glenn. Anyway thank you once again

  • Will you upload more Sale of the Century episodes?

  • wow, I love this set. I wish the US version did this instead of temptation, which sucked.
