@theqman1956 Thanks! I looked up the video and its interesting to see how they worked. I wouldn't want to work there in the summer or the winter for that matter. Way too open to the elements for my personal taste

Maybe you can answer this question? Where these inside an actual building or always outside? What was made in these ovens? Is there any photos that show them while in use?

@mrSarcastic1984 no they were never inside...they cooked coal and got it to its most purest form, "coke". this was and is the fuel used to make steel. They are all gone because the EPA shut them down for good in 1972.
go to our website and search the shoaf coke ovens to see a video of them operating.
