A tough Jerry reed number, but Chet pulls it of with style.

Hmmmmmm. I wonder why they call it the claw?

  • This is off Chet's 1973 "Alone" album, on which all the tracks are solos, electric on one side and classical on the other. Great album! Unless daffydoug is being tongue-in-cheek, Jerry Reed referred to his fingerpicking style as "clawing", hence the name of the tune.

  • I just learned something new. Thanks, man!

  • I agree. I love the aggressive hillbilly attitude that came through in everything that Jerry played. It seemed like simple country picking, but it was always deeper than that.

To me, Chet's music is like a summer picnic with good friends. Jerry's music brings the beer and bbq. They were a great pair.

  • Incredible how sweet and clean this tune comes off on a Classical guitar! Its "Country Flamenco"!

  • they call it the claw because the guitar technique is called the claw hammer technique because it looks like a claw when you are plucking the strings

  • i always prefer hearing chet play solo than with a band or backing behind him

    his talent really shows!!!

  • All of Chet's renditions were deceptively smooth. He was so good that he could play extremely hard pieces and they seemed to flow effortlessly...What an artist.

  • Man, I have never hear it so beautifully put before!

  • Do not let anyone fool you. I have studied this man in depth as well as his counter parts. CHET is the man. He was so versitile. I believe I am speaking for Tommy Jones, Doyle Dykes, Jim Reeves, Kirik Sands, Buster B. Jones, Jimmy Hendrix, Paul Yandell, Bill Clamp, John Knowles, Les Paul, Jimmy Page, & yes Steve Morse as well.

  • The thing with Chet was, the way I see it, that he was afraith of loosing his job,,again. He often lost his job in the 1940ties. Then he began to play safe, meny of his albums byers were grandmuthers..nothing wrong with that,,But if you listen to his late 40ties and early 50ties you will hear a wild Man. It simply gets booring in listen to his safe play

Listen too Lenny Breau playing "The Claw" and you will know wat I´m talking abouth

  • Hi hosswildcat, I have seen that quote too, but never heard him say it on any cd or lp, but I believe you.

  • BL, I totally agree. Chet was awesome in his own way, but his style left me wanting. although Chet is the better player, I much prefer Jerry's picking and style. A little simpler and not quite as elegant, but more "down-home" and "in-your-face."
