Les années 2010 et 2011 voient fleurir un peu partout dans le monde des hommages à Gustav Mahler, à l'occasion de son double anniversaire. C'est qu'il est devenu, au cours des dernières décennies, l'un des compositeurs les plus joués et aimés tant des orchestres que du public. Le nom de Michael Tilson Thomas est lié depuis longtemps à l'orchestre de San Francisco, une des meilleures phalanges américaines. Ils nous proposent leur vision de la Sixième Symphonie de Mahler, œuvre monumentale et dramatique dont le surnom de « Tragique » a été donné par le compositeur lui-même.

Pretty well all over the world the years 2010 and 2011 are being marked by tributes to Gustav Mahler, on the occasion of his double anniversary. Mahler has, after all, become one of the most played and most loved - by both orchestras and audiences - of all composers over recent decades. The name of Michael Tilson Thomas has long been associated with the San Francisco Symphony, one of the finest orchestras in the US. They will present their vision of Mahler's Sixth Symphony, a monumental, dramatic work whose "Tragic" nickname came from the composer himself.

In 2010 en 2011 wordt Mahlers dubbele verjaardag zowat overal ter wereld gevierd. De laatste decennia groeide hij uit tot een van de meest gespeelde en - zowel door orkest als publiek - geliefde componisten. De naam Michael Tilson Thomas is sinds lange tijd verbonden met het San Francisco Orchestra, een van de beste Amerikaanse orkesten. U hoort hen aan het werk in de Zesde symfonie van Mahler, een monumentaal en dramatisch werk dat van de componist zelf de bijnaam "Tragische symfonie" kreeg.
