Clip 1 of 8 - Introductory comments by Cyprus Centre founder Professor John Charalambous and Centre Director Dr Alicia Chrysostomou, and welcoming address by Peter Droussiotis as President of Episteme and the National Federation of Cypriot Organisations in the UK, to set the context for the event featuring Government Spokesman Stefanos Stefanou.

Government spokesman Stefanos Stephanou then provides a historical overview and an outline of the current situation of the Cyprus problem on the occasion of the Golden Anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus. This was the opening session on 29th June 2010, "The need for a solution to the Cyprus problem and related current developments" of a 2 day conference, "Cyprus - 50 Years of Independence - Achievements and Challenges" organised by the Cyprus Centre of the London Metropolitan University in association with Episteme, The Association of Cypriot Professional People in UK held under the auspices of the National Federation of Cypriots in the United Kingdom.
