Just wanted to add a little more to the review, if you'll accept. I tried the Pinecroft non-vintage Merlot last night from FoodLion grocery store just to try it, as the cheapies can be good sometimes, but wasn't impressed. I got similar reaction to your review of these varieties. It had no complexity to the flavor whatsoever, overly sweet and syrupy, slightly off-flavor and bland in the finish. Mediocre for a daily tablewine even. I'd give it a 3 out of 10. Nice review BTW.
