Leonard Cohen Hallelujah ..
Lyrics:
"Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
..."
this was my grandfathers favorite song! I miss him so much!

honestly people need to get over clinging to originals. when you have a conversation about the "best ever" why does it have to be the person who did it first? yea he wrote the song but he should have just given it to someone else. so many people have butchered this song, including cohen in my opinion. there are just better singers out there, that doesnt take anything away from the fact that he wrote the song. listen to jeff buckley and even rufus wainright go and back to this?....not even close

Is it just me or do some of these pics look like Anthony Bourdain?

I believe this is a beautiful song; and honestly it sounds great no matter who sings it. But personally I like the Jeff Buckley version best. The version that shows up as six minutes and fifty five seconds long.

The best Leonard Cohen song ever

This is the song as the WRITER intended it to be. It was a poem put to music and it moves me deeply. It has been changed (after the first two verses) so that it is more palitable as a love song, but the truth is this is song of man coming to grips with his spirituality.

Leonard Cohen wrote the song. It is about the state of rapture inspired by a particular woman.
Most do not appreciate the soul that can be moved to spiritual ecstasy by such an experience. He never claimed to be a great singer, but the mere fact that thousands of great singers across the globe sing his poetic verse, means he had something going for him. He is a visionary.

i'm sorry i almost never like a cover more than the original but he is not even singing. he is an extremely gifted lyricist but i think that is a better career for him. and it makes me feel like im being preached to the way he's sing talking.

That was horrible. People do such amazing covers of this song so I was excited to hear the original. That was horrible I can't believe some people like that, all he did was talk!
