"Featuring rare & exclusive SUN RA footage, photos & audio" A film by PHILL NIBLOCK featuring SUN RA & HIS SOLAR ARKESTRA. Composer, photographer and filmmaker Phill Niblock's classic of experimental underground filmmaking with a sensational soundtrack by pianist Sun Ra and the members of his Solar Arkestra! Shot in the mid '60s, when the Arkestra was based in New York, this film was produced using a unique negative process and ultra-tight close-ups on the moving hands and mouths of the musicians. The result is a virtually abstract music film, mastered from a new print in all its incredibly sharp black & white glory. Available at seeofsound.com

hmmm... well, maybe because he didn't keep playing the same straight stuff for 6 years like you? he took it in a completely different and interesting direction. After 6 years, how come you haven't "whipped out a piece of shit sounding riff like that" and left a massive legacy too?
I'm probably a little out of line here, i can see where a lot of you are coming from, and if you like this stuff and it inspires you, then great. To me it just seems really fake. And the reason people like this leave a "massive legacy" is due only a popularity contest..this guy is just like the popular kid at school. All the person knows how to do is attract other people with their style/words/whatever. Usually, that person doesn't have any talent. But if you're into that, then thats fine by me
musicianship has nothing to do with talent, and talent has nothing to do with technical ability, and technical ability has nothing to do with how good you are.
BUT
how good you are, whether it is in music, math, science, or who you are as a person has to do with the intentions of your soul. The language you use to speak to others has nothing to do with how you use it.

Yeah? How much experience do you have with music? Or do you simply listen to a lot of music and think you know something. Dude, like..just no. Some of his other, older stuff, is okay, at best..hardly the pinnacle of jazz. Yes, it is great what he did for keyboards and "breaking from the norm", but disregarding basic musicianship is not acceptable, even in this subset of freejazz. Just no. Don't give me shit for not understanding.
do you understand that art is something personal? that the sound of a bicycle chain going round can be music to some? and you know what? those people have just as much claim on what "music" is as you do! they are not any better or any worse than you. Music, or art in general, has an effect on people, period. You can spend all day long arguing technique, etc., but in the end the question is does it move you or not. If it doesn't, then fine. Go somewhere else. IF it does move you, fine.
But spare us the childish "I know more about music than you, and this ain't music" rant. Because it's just coming off like some petty audiophile that can't enjoy a piece of music until it's played on the "right" equipment. Lighten up.

Take Dragonforce for example, very talented technical guitarists, very shitty music and lyrics.
