Dougs Smokes opens for business Oct 13 2007

Having had enough of the illegal smoke trade in his town, Caledonia resident Doug Fleming (Running for Haldimand Council in 2010) opened his own "smoke shack" (the back of his truck) on October 13, 2007. His hope was that he would be arrested so that the issue of illegal cigarettes would be brought into the Courts where it belongs.

Civil rights advocate / Canace co-founder Jeff Parkinson had the pleasure of being one of Mr. Fleming's first customers. He later tossed the "smokes" in the trash as they were contraband rollies containing insect eggs and human feces, but he enjoyed the free coffee he got with his purchase.

When several occupiers of the Douglas Creek Estates showed up, the event took a more serious turn, but as you will see Mr Fleming handled himself with dignity and class.
