Plus as we all know the US loves to shit on every other country it possibly can, so even if we did manage to elect a sane government any attempt to legislate counter to what Americans do would result in heavy political pressure from down south of the border. Make marijuana illegal? You can bet your ass the US would have a hissy fit about that. And just imagine what they'd have done if we told them to go blow up Afghanistan without us. It's hard to run a country next to the USA. Just ask Mexico.
