http://accordionmaniac.blogspot.com Ottavia Brajko from Slovenian band "Ansambel Ottavija Brajko" from Primorska region with an Australian-Slovenian choir at the Slovenian Association Melbourne, Research-Eltham
All the clubs did exist & it was a golden time for them in the 70s and 80s when the average age was 40-50! I remember Camberwell Civil Centre being packed out- at least 600-700 people is not more! I remember when Planica got 1200 people at their 10th anniversary in 1982 and the opening of their new hall in 1984. I remember over 1000 people being at the 1st Slovenian Festival (Slovenski Tabor) in 1988 at Planica.
I am not fluent, but can manage to converse, although as the relatives in Slovenia pointed out many times, I was using incorrect grammer at times, which was interesting since they could not speak English. They new where Ottavijo lived and we just drove there and knocked on the door.
