Please forgive that comment from my husband. He did not mean that toward Tim. He was more complimenting Jim. He would never mean anything bad toward anyone. He is related by marriage to Jim and was just being silly.

@willowlynnhowiesmom Not sure I'd say "outplaying" cause they're both excellent in their approaches. It is Jim Hurst on other guitar- played with Trisha Yearwood, Claire Lynch, his own bands w/ Missy Raines on bass. Tim plays a melodic, and harmonically fluid style, and Jim does a little of that plus an element of "note surprise" using octaves. Tone rules for both of em. My two top faves in the genre.

My buddy, Tim. He's an incredible lead picker, rhythm player, song writer and singer!
Only Tim Stafford can make the guitar sound so full with just a flatpick. The most interesting bluegrass player today and a master of crosspicking !

Tim told me he does that because he started out on banjo and his teacher had him put a section of garden hose on his ring finger and little finger to keep them confined and planted. By the time he took up guitar, it was just old habit.
