Since the early 70's, east coast rockers Crack The Sky have fused music as diverse as progressive rock, funk, power pop and jazz into a style all their own.
Unfortunately, Crack The Sky has never really been recognized for their innovative songs and instrumental prowess. This video is my tribute to them!

  • Hi Steady Steve, Thanks for your reply. Yes this area was a little grey for me because I understood they all started playing together in PA, then went to NYC. Maybe should say "was a band from the East Coast" ?

  • @steadysteve54 Hmmm iam 42 now I was in middle school when they played at timonium fairgrounds. I actually had my first kiss with a cindy. Kix was there also. Somehow kix got their notority in PA as well. not sure how this happens but those who were there in the early days young or old know were they started.

  • Loved the vid and really miss the band!! Would love to see a re-union show with all the original members!! Joe Macre had one of the most original styles I've EVER heard.

I think they may have been too far ahead of thier time . . . maybe that's what happened.

Dunno . . . . Maybe "Life Long" records screwed them.

  • They'll always be known as a Baltimore band though as that is where they had their biggest following.

  • @jimisback ~

    Hi jimisback ! I

n the early 70's I lived in LSU's Tiger Stadium on the ground floor, where the student entrance was. Every Saturday during football season, I'd hoist the stereo speakers into the window and plat CTS. On the second weekend I did that, I had two separate visitors asking "Who were THOSE guys ?!" Ah, the good ol' days ~ Nemo

  • The reason they never made it big is for what you stated in your video - their music was all over the place and never caught on with the masses.

  • when they came to NYC they actually lived about 40 minutes north in a town called Irvington- They were seen all the time in the village- they stood out with their long hair, etc- The reason they were in irvington was because of the record company had a guy who lived in that town who had something to do with them- Billy Kirkland- I saw these guys in town, and one of them gave me their first promo album- lost it now-

  • The only reason I know about this band is during the late 80's Seattle radio station very briefly rotated the song From the Greenhouse, it sounded so much like Pink Floyd/Cat Stevens I had to know who made it.

Have never heard their music on radio since.

  • haha tht was a great vid, i was at tht show at club 66 on friday, they were rockin and sounded great, i need to see them again soon, i wana learn nuclear apathy, surf city and a bunch of other songs on guitar so you should see if the band can put tabs on their website, tht would be really kool for young guitarists like me
