Great video, I keep thinking about making my own portable and this has given me a good insight in the kind of stuff I'd need :)

Also wanted to say I'd be impressed if in a future handheld you made if you put one of those X-mini speakers in it. That would sort out any tinny sounds problems you might have :D

There are lots of small speakers around, 30mm or 40mm are ideal; smaller than that is where they get tinny. In reality, you don't want more volume than about the volume you speak at, so these speakers are perfectly fine.

Good, this video wasn't designed to be comprehensive, rather than for someone looking to get into the hobby but a bit unsure as to what they are getting into and wanting some tips and ideas to know they can do it.

Fantastic vid mate - really helpful. This is useful for repairs as well. I am having probs with a neo geo and think it may be the traces (scrambled graphics after giving cart slot a deep clean). The traces are tiny though how can I identify problems with them and fix something so small? I have the same iron as you. The neo has some blacky/golden brown solder around the joints for the power and video port - does this sound like a problem? Cheers.

Scrape away gently the trace covering until you get to the copper (that's the trace itself), apply a dab of flux on the area, then solder with your iron, you get a little fizz as the flux removes the coating and allows the solder to weld to the joint; tin your wire, then apply the wire to the trace with soldering iron. Be quick on the trace, don't let the iron be there too long.

Making a portable is very time consuming, so unless you wanted something slapped in a box and looking bad and rough, it costs, hence the commission price I need to ask; £400-£430 for SNES or N64 or NES portable, £15 or £25 for postage (UK/non UK). When you know the work and labour involved in making one you'll realise price asked isn't expensive.
