Carl Sagan was awesome.
But...intelligent life I think is EXTREMELY rare. Think about it for a moment. Life existed on Earth for thousands of millions of years...and yet NOT ONCE did any of them reach intelligence.
Think about the dinosaurs...the roamed the earth for 160 million years...and NONE of them reached intelligence.
By my calculations of the Drake equation the Milky Way galaxy at most may have 2 or 3 planets with intelligent life.
