Newport Beach Wedge July 2009

Huge southwest groundswell out of Cook Islands hit the Newport Beach Wedge this weekend creating perfect conditions and 18 foot to maybe 20 foot waves for skilled surfers only. This video was shot around 8:00am on Saturday, July 25, 2009 several hours after a minus low tide. Looked bigger than newport wedge during 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, or even 2001 have to go back to 1990s for bigger sets.

The bodyboarder who was shaken up in this video is ok.

@yutziy we are up on a lifeguard tower, if we dont zoom you will just see hundreds of people heads in the way. This place is like a rock concert when it goes off

we saw some 18 footers out there. check out "the wedge raw" nobody on some of the bigger waves.
