A former Child Piano Prodigy, Dr. Rey A. Gonzales at 12 y/o was a Philippine Grand Champion of the famed ABS-CBN Hamon Sa Kampeon, Solo Instrument-Piano, (DZXL, Channel 3, 1967). While pursuing his Pre-Med at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, he cross-enrolled as a Piano Major, and won First Prize in a Bach Piano Competition defeating full time Piano Majors at the UP College of Music, 1977. He was under the tutelage of Prof. Rita "Conching" Villacorta, Prof. Asuncion Laureola and with his mom Angela Albano Gonzales, all from the UP Conservatory of Music. He is the son of Jose "Tinio" Violago Gonzales.

Born and raised in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, Philippines, Dr. Rey has a Doctor of Medicine from the UERMMMC College of Medicine and had General Surgery residency training in Bulacan Provincial Hospital. Currently based in Los Angeles, California, USA, he is with the American College of HealthCare Executives, UCLA HSAA (Executive MPH-Management), Olive View-UCLA Medical Center (Nursing/Edu, AHA), and is the Chair of the UERM Medicine '82 Legacy Group, USA. He is happily married to Dr. Rhodora Tolentino Gonzales, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, and blessed with 2 children: Jun Rey & Dorothy Rae.
