INTERNET PRIVACY AND SECURING YOURSELF

I am making this video to discuss our privacy issues and to inform all of you who, perhaps aren't real computer savvy or just haven't bothered to make the changes, of a few methods by which to better protect yourselves.These protections cover internet threats as well as "roving eyes" in your work place or home environment. You should watch the video at the above link before continuing. A Linox based Operating System like "Ubunto" is the best overall option but requires some effort to learn the system and to navigate through procedures. The first thing to do is set up your browser and this would include:

A. Stop using IE. I Use Firefox as my primary browser and SRWare Iron as my secondary.

B. Stop using Google as a search engine (Yahoo and Bing are just as bad)
Turn off "search suggestions" if you insist on using Google.
"Bind search", "Start page HTTPS" and "DuckDuckGo(SSL)" are just a few that are available which don't track or save your search history'

C. Never accept "third party cookies"

D. If you don't use your "history", turn it off. If you do use it, set up security to "clear history when browser closes".

E, Firefox has several good add-ons that will help to protect your privacy.
The first one that comes to mind is "Better Privacy". It will serve to protect you from so called, "super cookies", "Flash cookies" or LSO's which are a new generation cookie which offer unlimited user tracking to industry and marketing research. Concerning privacy, Flash cookies are the most critical. This add-on can be tweaked for exceptions or simply to either block them completely or eliminate them upon closing your browser. Other add-ons include, but are not limited to: a. "HTTPS-Everywhere 1.2.2" which automatically uses HTTPS security on many sites.
b. "cookieKiller" which does what it implies.
c. "DeSopa" which automatically evades DNS and connects directly to a website via it's IP address.
d. "Disconnect 1.0.1" which stops third parties from tracking the webpages you go to.
e. "Secure Sanitizer 0.3.3" which allows secure cleaning of cache and wiping traces by a "three step overwriting of data' (US DoD 5220 method) Another good pactice is to Flush DNS which can be achieved through A simple "Command Prompt". F. Download and use "CCleaner". It is a fastand efficient means of doing a general sweep of your system and not only replicates some of the results achieved by using the above mentioned software, it rids your computer of unnecessary junk that only slows things down. This is really important to people who insist on using IE. You can also tweak IE by applying a little research into security matters concerning that browser.

G. Download and install "Vidalia Bundle" This will connect you to the "TOR" network which assures your anonimity while using the internet. (research). This is a "roaving" proxy and you can change you idenity with a click of the mouse. In my opinion this is vital and does an excellent job.

E. Download and install "Hotspot Shield". This will also assign different ISP's, IP's assure anonomity as well. This program will run along side TOR without any interference. The free version is somewhat annoying with adds and so forth but in cases where you really want to cover yourself, it works flawlessly. Turns on and off with a click.

It is a shame that we have to go through this shit just to do what we did so freely a few short years ago but in this ever increasing "Police State" that we live in, I believe it is prudent to be awake to the threats and to do what we can to protect ourselves. dumped after finding out he was a shill. I'm not techy and wonder what this means.

@fatpius Boy, that one has me stumped. If it was all the channels I could probably figure out what was happening.but when you say it's only a couple I have to respond by saying "I don't have a fucking clue". I know, and should have included it in the video, that you have to turn it off when uploading to YT. That's due to the fact that you are operating from a different IP and YT must have security to protect someone from having an intruder upload.I would simply turn it off to watch ...

@mainemike52 yea, it's been wierd, some work, some don't. I was going to uninstall it, but saw the control panel for it and turned it off....now, so far, everything works. sure has me stumped as well. tkx for responding.

Good video Mike, I use many of the tools that you mention in this video myself. I clear everything on my system everyday. In the end we all know "Big Brother" is watching no matter what we do. People that don't believe that live in a fantasy world. I did manage to get my same user name on Zippcast when they get the bugs ironed out I'll be posting all my videos over there. @theeastwatch Ubuntu is cool. I am an Apple person, but I set up a Dell with Ubuntu 11.10 and enjoy using it. You can run Ubuntu on an apple too. Partition your drive and install both OS's. Thanks for alerting me to this vid. Peace. Excellent Security in Ubuntu with add ons.
